Lone Star Lap Quilt

I've been working on this since early this year.  A lot less work than it looks.  Just precise sewing!  No little squares or triangles cut to make this gem. The only reason it took so long is every time I got frustrated I would put it down and do something else.  Made the process far more enjoyable.

It is approximately 69 inches square...a lap quilt for two.  The backing is a lavender fabric.

Time Zips!

Doesn't seem like so long since Mother's Day...much has happened.

Daren and Kristie were married on June 30th in Rohnert Park, CA  A truly lovely event for two special people.

Following the wedding we returned to Nevada and got one more ride to Death Valley before the temperatures became oppressive.

Then, wonder of wonders it really RAINED on July 20th!  Very refreshing (and Larry's drainage system worked).
Then we were off to Nebraska for a week.

Since our return from our little Nebraska adventure we have been sapped by the heat.  We had forgotten that this is a month of OVER 100 degree temperatures.

Shadow loves Larry - and loves sleeping right next to him.

Shadow doesn't particularly like water...but she is smart enough to know that it is cooler on the pool float.  She will step on the float and then lay down.  Perfectly happy to be there with us as long as she is on the float.  (Although she does swim to the step if need be.)

Next up...motorcycle ride in September.

Mother's Day

This photo was taken at the Presidio National Cemetery, San Francisco, CA.  The view from the cemetery is awesome...she would be pleased!

Even after all these years I miss her.  I also use many of the skills she taught me.  I thank God for the time I had with her.

Death Valley Ride

Eight riders headed for Death Valley on Tuesday morning.  Breakfast a Terrible's Lakeside in Pahrump and then off to Death Valley.

The weather was nearly perfect...high temperature 95, no wind and very little construction.

We stopped at Bad Water, Dante's View, Artist's Palette and the new Furnace Creek Visitor's Center.

Landscaping almost rehab almost done!

Larry's 'little' landscaping project is nearly finished.  When he began he only intended to place pavers around the edges of the buildings to control runoff from the house.  We now have new pavers, new decorative rock (replaced the ugly gray with rose colored), lots of new trees, a drainage system, more drip system and he moved the fountain to a focal point in the front yard.

AWESOME JOB!

A little fun with all that work.

In between Larry's many projects we managed to make it to the NASCAR race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.  We spent less time at the track because the wind was blowing too bad to enjoy Rving in the infield.  The infield RV experience was the least enjoyable of our 4 years.  We had people from Arizona who believed playing country music through the open doors of their vehicle until 3 a.m. was the right thing to do and the security people could have cared less.

We also made a trip to the China Ranch Date Farm again...this time with Larry's mom.  Larry purchased a female date palm for our yard.  In a few years he is hoping for dates.  While I don't believe his mom enjoyed the short drive, she did enjoy the dates.

A little project of mine...the first 'arm' of a Lone Star quilt.  Taking this one slowly to get all those little points in the correct placement
This painting was a 'find' at one of those places that sells items from storage units...an original George C Nash watercolor.
This little teapot (a one cup) was just too cute to pass up at a recent garage sale. It fits right in with my other little Easter decorations.

The Work Goes On!

What began as a simple desire to install pavers around the perimeter of the house and RV barn blossomed into many major projects.

Larry has now installed drainage around and the buildings and pavers.  He's reworked the front area...putting in new, prettier rock, gotten rid of the gray rocks in back and replaced with red. Planted fruit trees...planting more cypress and moved the fountain to a much better focal point.

Next up?  Who knows!

How about Larry's hairdo?  Think the wind was blowing?
